Motorola Droid RAZR 32GB Reviews

"It's our feeling that the form-factor of the Motorola Droid RAZR will become the new industry standard. It's thin, lightweight, durable, fast, and has a beautiful screen. The phone is a little wider and longer than most smartphones available today, but fits comfortably in-hand and carries well in a shirt pocket. The RAZR comes with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, but thanks to Motorola's commitment of timely upgrades, it shouldn't be long before the RAZR gets an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. "Interestingly, Motorola has coated the entire phone, inside and out, with a water repellent, and though they say this isn't water-proofing the phone, any liquid that is splashed on the handset should bead and slide off. The phone's ports are exposed, however, so a drop in the kitchen sink while doing the dishes will likely still be fatal for the phone." 8.8/10

"Video performance was certainly above average. The 30-second 1080p clip we captured was compressed down to a surprisingly miserly 59.3MB, but the video still looks relatively crisp. Color reproduction was good and it managed to capture a decent amount of detail in the shadows. "

"I'm very glad that Motorola is jumping on the AMOLED bandwagon. Samsung has been producing smartphones with this type of screen for quite awhile, and the better displays are one of the reasons that Samsung has been getting a greater and greater share both of sales and critical acclaim. Another benefit of AMOLED screens is power consumption -- since you only light up the parts of the screen you need, blacked out areas (like the background of the Android app drawer, most Android menus, etc.) are actually saving you power compared to a conventional LCD. "Motorola claims that the Droid Razr is the thinnest phone in the world, and while we can't prove that, we're inclined to believe it's true. Measuring 5.14 inches long by 2.71 inches wide by 0.28 inch thick and weighing only 4.5 ounces, we were immediately struck by how slim and lightweight it felt, despite its large footprint. "Voice calling on this phone is excellent, with calls coming through loud with good low end and clarity. Signal reception was also excellent and I almost always got 4G LTE signal in my home or around town in New York City and parts of Connecticut. Callers could hear me loud and clear."

"The phone features work really well for me. Even in my low coverage are where I get 1 bar, I am getting no dropped calls and no loss of service. Call quality sounds excellent using both in-ear and speakerphone modes. A couple of people did say I sometimes sounded like I was inside a room with a slight echo but it wasn’t all that bad."

"The data is fast, then, but the speed at which the RAZR gulps down battery life is also rapid. Motorola was off to a good start, fitting a 1,780 mAh Li-Ion pack into the DROID RAZR’s chassis, but we’ve still been unimpressed with how fast it’s run down."

"Smart Actions are likely the single best feature of the RAZR. The system constantly monitors the phone’s state and location and automatically adjust settings and performs tasks as things change. The possibilities range from the simple, like launching the music player when headphones are plugged in, to the complex, like shutting down Bluetooth and GPS when you get home to preserve battery life." 7/10

"Speaking of the screen, I’ve seen better. Completely spoiled by Apple’s “retina” display, for close-up viewing angles, no matter how many superlative-sounding names you attached to this (albeit generously sized) 4.3-inch “Super AMOLED Advanced qHD” screen, I could still see distracting and visible pixels. Not good. I’d give it a C+."
