Positive

"The hardware is probably the best ever designed by RIM, and offers a perfect combination of controls, materials, and quality manufacture. I can't state strongly enough how fantastic the QWERTY keyboard is. "

"We were quite pleased with the fast data speeds on the Bold 9900. However, they were more typical of 3G speeds rather than the 4G speeds that T-Mobile claims. We loaded the mobile CNET page in around 11 seconds while the full CNET site loaded in around 30 seconds. " 8/10 Stars

"Placing voice phone calls isn’t a problem with the handset since it produces natural, distinctive, and clear voices on both ends of the line – plus, there is no evidence of any static or background noise through the earpiece. " 8/10 Stars

"Pick up the Bold 9900 and you'll definitely know about it. It's 130g, so it's by no means feather-light. But would you want it any other way? Ultimately, this is a handset that's supposed to feel like it means business, and at least it feels lighter than you expect it to be." 4/5 Stars

"...though we’ll need to spend more time with the OS to figure out whether it’ll allow RIM to catch up with iOS and Android. It certainly feels smoother and more responsive than previous versions, though the Bold 9900/9930′s 1.2GHz processor and 768MB of memory don’t hurt there either."

"Well, did RIM step up to the plate? I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong, this is the best Blackberry smartphone I’ve seen yet. The problem is, it’s not enough. It’s the same crusty interface that Blackberry has been using for years. Sure, someone put some touchscreen lipstick and 1.2 gigahertz blush on it, but it’s still the same interface as before. It’s simply not enough."

"BlackBerry App World is still a disaster. When I first tested it in early 2009, I didn’t mind the freeze-ups and bugs so much. But today, they’re still there. And there still aren’t enough compelling programs, and even the useful ones usually trail their Android or iOS counterparts. Simply put: get an Android device or iPhone if you like apps." 3/5

"Taking pictures and video on the Bold 9900 is a bit of a mixed bag. The phone's 5-megapixel camera snaps pics quickly, but Android handsets such as the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide capture much crisper images (especially in low light)." 3/5 Stars
