Rok Mobile GSM Network

ROK Mobile is growing and it seems like everyone is on board now.

ROK Mobile has launched GSM plans on the AT&T network. They have had their CDMA plans live for a while now on Sprint and Verizon networks.

The ROK Mobile plans range from $30 a month  to $50 and each one comes with unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE Data as well as Roadside assistance.

Why is this a big deal?

ROK Mobile is basically expanding their network. This means that more customers can switch over to this MVNO without worrying about whether or not their phone will be compatible on this network. Now that ROK Mobile offers plans that are open to both GSM and CDMA networks, your chances of switching over to save money just got greater!

Here is the backstory on CDMA and GSM:

Difference between CDMA and GSM

CDMA is one of two basic mobile phone technologies most popular in the US. This network technology is used by the big carriers SPRINT, VERIZON, and US Cellular. If you have a phone running directly on one of these major networks  - or a MVNO (small carrier) that runs off of these big guys - you must stay on the CDMA network for your phone to work. Alternatively, you can get a new phone on the GSM network.

GSM is the other basic mobile phone technology most popular around the rest of the world. This network technology is used by AT&T and T-Mobile. If you are using a phone that runs on any of the GSM networks or their MVNO (small carriers), you cannot switch over to a CDMA network carrier unless you purchase a phone that is compatible to that network.

There are exceptions, of course.

You are not "guaranteed" a free and clear switch to another carrier just because they are the same network. There are more factors that go into switching your phone carrier. Read this to learn more about switching cell phone carriers
