Exciting news for Samsung fans anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus: the devices ship this Friday, April 21.
With a best-in-class AMOLED screen, fast performance, and a new AI-driven virtual assistant (Bixby), the S8 seems poised to be a big hit. And really, it has to be after the Samsung's troubles last year with the Galaxy Note 7, which had a tendency to spontaneously catch fire.
The company hit an early snag, having shipped out devices with "red-tinted" screens to customers in South Korea; recipients of these devices, naturally, have been nonplussed. Samsung has said, though, that the issue can be resolved manually in the phone's settings.
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S8 will ship out with AKG earbuds, and early reviews of the headphones have been very positive. Austria-based AKG Acoustics has been in the headphone game for decades, producing studio-ready cans for nearly 70 years. Samsung recently acquired its parent company, Harman International, so the move to include the AKG earbuds makes sense.
According to cell phone insurance provider Asurion--which also conducts market research--82% of Android users own a Samsung device. That makes the potential user base of the S8 massive. Indeed, early preorder sales statistics put out by the company have been impressive, outpacing the performance of previous generations of the phone. One report from South Korea even claims that preorders have already exceeded the 1 million unit mark.
The S8 and S8 Plus are available via lease or installments from all of the major carriers and number of smaller ones; use WhistleOut's comparison tool to find the cell phone plan that works best for you. Here's a sampling:
