Xfinity FAQs

Who owns Xfinity?

Xfinity was founded in 2010 and is owned by the Comcast Corporation, which is a telecommunications conglomerate that also owns NBCUniversal, amongst many other similar companies.

In what states does Xfinity offer coverage?

The Xfinity brand offers services in 39 states, including Utah, Illinois, Colorado, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Use our internet search engine to see if you can get Xfinity at your address.

What internet speeds does Xfinity offer?

Xfinity's internet service can offer users internet speeds from 15Mbps to 1,000Mbps. As a general rule, the faster your internet speeds, the more expensive your internet plan will be.

What internet connection type does Xfinity offer?

Xfinity offers their customers high-speed internet via cable and fiber networks. Xfinity's cable internet options are more widely available, while its fiber internet network is still growing.

What happens if I go over my monthly data allowance?

Even though the 1000GB data cap is rather high, if you do happen to go over your monthly data allowance, then Xfinity will automatically add blocks of 50GB of data for an additional $10 per block. These additional data charges will never exceed $200 in a month. All data allowances reset each billing cycle (i.e., every month).

Does Xfinity require a contract and if so, what are the terms?

Xfinity offers three different options: no-contract, 12-month, and 24-month term agreements. If you do not wish to sign a contract, expect to pay a little more for your service. However, if you're planning on moving or if you wish to try the service before you make a commitment, then that's a smart choice. If you enter a 12-month or 24-month agreement, you will be locked into a lower monthly price for the duration of the contract. Be aware that you'll be paying some pretty hefty early termination fees if you cancel your account before your contract is up.

What equipment do I need for an Xfinity internet plan?

You have the option to bring your own modem and router or you can rent one from Xfinity for a small monthly fee. You'll be given this option when you select an internet plan and check out.

Do I need professional installation?

You can opt to "self-install" your equipment for free or you can pay $89.99 for professional installation. Do keep your eye out for Xfinity's "Free Professional Installation" offers—as they are pretty common.

Does Xfinity offer the option to bundle internet plans with TV and/or phone service?

Yes! With Xfinity, you have the option to bundle your internet with phone service and/or TV. Bundling will often mean discounted prices as compared with buying each service individually.

Xfinity's Customer Service & Reputation

A major pain-point for Xfinity customers seems to fall under those who signed an agreement and want out—or those who didn't sign a contract and their plan keeps changing.

Just keep in mind that if you sign a contract, you are immediately responsible for all termination fees—and if you don't sign one, they are not obligated to keep your plan features the same.

Another issue you might find is that the service isn't working as expected. If you decide to go with Xfinity, before you sign your final contract (immediately after installation) ensure that your service is up and running with satisfactory service and speeds. You can even do a speed test right there on the spot.

Why Choose Xfinity?

Xfinity offers their customers the power of choice. Not only can you choose between a wide range of speeds and services, but you can opt to sign a contract to lock in lower monthly prices or you can pay a little more and cancel at any time.

On top of that, Xfinity offers two of the most stable internet connection types available. While cable is subject to slowing during times of network congestion, fiber is on its own line and should be even more stable.

Xfinity's plans offer customers a wide range of speeds from 15Mbps all the way up to 1,000Mbps. Best of all, they offer bundles that include TV and or phone service as well.

With reasonable upfront fees and low monthly rates, you should absolutely check out their plans today!
