What we know so far

  • T-Mobile's new T-Mix plans launch on November 5, and new customers will likely lose access to the Experience More 2.0 and Experience Beyond 2.0 plans.
  • Experience More 2.0 costs $170/month for four lines, or just $42.50 per line, with unlimited premium data, Netflix, and international data included.
  • Experience Beyond 2.0 costs $215/month for four lines, or $53.75 per line, and adds Hulu, 250GB of hotspot data, and T-Satellite.
  • Families who want Experience 2.0 need to sign up before November 5, though T-Mobile has delayed the T-Mix launch more than once.

T-Mobile's Experience More 2.0 and Experience Beyond 2.0 plans are the best family plans the carrier has ever offered, and T-Mobile is about to replace them. I'm sad to see them go, and the major family savings that go, too.

For a family of four, Experience More 2.0 packs in unlimited premium 5G data, free streaming subscriptions, and all the bells and whistles you can imagine (like international data) for only $42.50 per line. That's cheaper than any other carriers can offer with similar perks.

If you're thinking about switching to T-Mobile, or you're a customer planning to upgrade, here's why I think this change is a mistake and what you can do before it happens.

Out with the old, in with the new

T-Mobile is revamping its cellular offerings with all-new mobile phone plans. Unfortunately, that means T-Mobile will most likely end its value-packed Experience 2.0 plans, at least for new customers.

Both Experience More 2.0 and Experience Beyond 2.0 are at risk of being phased out. Existing customers to Experience 2.0 can probably keep the plans they're on, but anyone switching to T-Mobile will have to opt for one of the newer T-Mix plans, which usher in radical plan changes for T-Mobile.

Experience More 2.0 is the best deal for a family of four, and T-Mobile is taking it away

Experience More 2.0 is the best deal with four lines for two simple reasons: The price per line is cheap, and the plan includes benefits that other carriers charge extra for (or leave out entirely).

Experience More 2.0 costs less than most budget plans

Experience More 2.0's price is hard to beat. T-Mobile gives you a third line free, so the price per line drops fast. A family of three pays $140/month for Experience More 2.0, which comes out to about $46.66 per line, but the multiline discount really kicks in when you add a fourth line.

A family of four pays $170/month for Experience More 2.0, or just $42.50 per line. That's a better price than most budget carriers, with tons of benefits to keep you connected wherever you go.

Take US Mobile for example. As a budget carrier, US Mobile offers cheaper cell service, but its Unlimited Premium plan costs $44/month for a single line. That's more than what each line costs for a four-member family on Experience More 2.0. And T-Mobile offers loads more perks for the whole family to enjoy.

Experience More 2.0's benefits are unbeatable

Experience More 2.0 includes benefits to suit all of your family's needs. Plus, there's no fighting or arguing necessary since every line comes with the same benefits.

Experience More 2.0 comes with unlimited premium data, so there's no monthly cap on your fast speeds, and you won't be stuck unable to load Instagram halfway through the month. Many budget plans either put their customers at lower priority on the network (which means slower speeds when the network is busy) or directly add a cap to priority data.

Experience More 2.0 also comes with a free Netflix Standard with Ads subscription, 60GB of high-speed hotspot data (that's enough to work remotely), and a phone upgrade every three years.

But that's not all; the travel benefits are where the plan really pulls ahead. Experience More 2.0 includes 15GB of high-speed data you can use in Canada and Mexico, and 5GB of high-speed data you can use in more than 215 countries and destinations. With T-Mobile's included international data, you can skip the eSIM hunt and the daily fees other major carriers charge.

Experience Beyond 2.0 is a great value for families who want a little more

If your family wants a little extra, Experience Beyond 2.0 costs $215/month for four lines, or $53.75 per line. It ups the ante with two streaming subscriptions at no extra cost, Netflix Standard with ads and Hulu, so there's something on for everyone in the house. If you're a parent who works remotely, the 250GB of high-speed hotspot data means you can work from the car, a coffee shop, or the sideline of a soccer game without worrying about running out.

And if your family loves camping and exploring nature, T-Satellite is included, so you stay connected even when there's no cell signal. For about $53 per line, Beyond covers movie night, remote work, and the great outdoors.

What is replacing Experience 2.0?

T-Mobile is replacing its Experience 2.0 plans with T-Mix plans. A set of three new plans (called Standard, More, and Loaded) let customers choose their benefits, a major switchup from the set perks Experience 2.0 offers.

Each T-Mix plan comes with a number of Picks that you spend on benefits. Now that may sound like an upgrade, but you may be sacrificing more perks than you're getting.

Think of it like a fair ticket system. You get tickets to use but each game or ride costs a different number of tickets, so if you only have 1 ticket, you can't ride the 4-ticket roller coaster.

The same logic goes for T-Mobile's new benefit model. You choose, but you're limited in what you can choose.

What can families do before Experience 2.0 goes away?

Families who want Experience 2.0 need to sign up before T-Mix launches on November 5. T-Mobile has pushed this launch back more than once, so the exact date could still change.

T-Mobile calls T-Mix flexibility, but I think families lose out when benefits become a limited pool.
