What we know so far
- The One Piece, a brand-new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's manga series, is coming exclusively to Netflix in February 2027.
- It's being produced by the same studio that brought us the first three seasons of Attack on Titan.
- This series is a Netflix exclusive. It will not be available on Crunchyroll.
- Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation (with two seasons) is currently streaming separately and is an entirely different production.
The One Piece is coming to Netflix in February 2027, and it is one of the most anticipated releases in anime history. Eiichiro Oda's manga has been in publication since 1997 and is widely considered the best-selling manga series ever produced.
A full reimagining by WIT Studio, the team behind Attack on Titan's first three seasons, marks the first time the series has received a modern, prestige-level animated treatment. I spent a full year reading the entire published run of the manga to prepare for this release, and I still follow new weekly chapter drops on Manga Plus.

We've found the cell phone plans that already include Netflix at no extra cost. Here are the top options:
When does The One Piece come out?
The One Piece premieres on Netflix in February 2027. A specific date within the month has not been confirmed. Netflix's page for the series is live now and will carry the official date announcement when it is made.

The One Piece is not a sequel or continuation of the original 1999 Toei Animation anime series. It is a full reimagining of the manga starting from the beginning, covering the East Blue Saga, which introduces Luffy and each of the original Straw Hat crew members for the first time. WIT Studio is handling production, bringing the same cinematic approach it applied to Attack on Titan's first three seasons.
Netflix also has a separate live-action One Piece adaptation with two seasons currently streaming. That production features a different cast and format and shares only the source material with The One Piece animated series.
What is One Piece?
One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who gains a rubber body after eating a Devil Fruit and sets out to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates.
What the One Piece treasure actually is remains unknown after nearly 30 years of publication. The series is currently in its final arc, with new chapters still being released weekly as of 2026. The Netflix adaptation arriving now, near the manga's end, is a big moment for such a beloved series.
Where to watch The One Piece
The One Piece is a Netflix exclusive, which means you need an active Netflix subscription to watch it. The series will not be available on any other streaming platform at launch, including Crunchyroll.
Any current Netflix plan gives you full access to The One Piece the moment it premieres.
Is The One Piece available on Crunchyroll?
The One Piece will not be available on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll carries the original 1999 One Piece anime and a large portion of the broader anime catalog, but The One Piece is a Netflix original production and will only stream on Netflix.
How to get free Netflix to watch The One Piece
T-Mobile's Experience More and Experience Beyond plans both include Netflix as a built-in benefit, which means subscribers don't pay a separate monthly streaming bill.
On top of streaming perks, you also get access to the most extensive 5G coverage map across the U.S. for fast streaming wherever you go. You can even stream from the plane while on your next vacation with T-Mobile's in-flight Wi-Fi.

Where to read One Piece
Manga Plus is my personal favorite (and free) app where new One Piece chapters are published in English simultaneously with the Japanese release. The app requires no subscription and gives readers access to the full archive of recent chapters as well as the ongoing final arc.
The r/OnePiece community on Reddit is one of the most active manga discussion communities on the platform. Chapter discussion threads go live immediately after each weekly release and include detailed analysis of Oda's references, foreshadowing, and world-building.
For coordinating watch parties, sharing episode reactions, and discussing theories with friends in real time, see our guide to the best messaging apps for options that support group conversations across Discord, WhatsApp, and other platforms.
Want to read ahead of the Netflix adaptation?
The One Piece adaptation begins with the East Blue Saga, covering the Baratie, Arlong Park, and Loguetown arcs. Readers who finish the series and want to continue the story can pick up directly from where the adaptation ends in the manga. New chapters are published every week on Manga Plus, free of charge, with no subscription required.
