FAQ

Christmas Countdown: Daysie is a free Android app that shows your countdown to Christmas over full holiday scenes, with carols, a calendar view, and three built-in games. It's the top Android pick in our roundup of the best Christmas countdown apps, and I tested it on my Samsung Galaxy S24 FE alongside four other countdown apps.

Most Christmas countdown apps look like they were designed for a toddler's sticker book. Daysie trades cartoon characters for cozy Christmas scenes and keeps ads off the main countdown screen.

Give your Galaxy a cheaper plan for Christmas

The best gift you can give yourself this season might be a smaller phone bill. MVNOs that run on T-Mobile's network use the same towers as T-Mobile and often cost about half as much, and you can usually bring your unlocked Android phone and keep your number when you switch.

What is Christmas Countdown: Daysie?

Daysie is very different from the other countdown apps I tried. Each screen is a full Christmas scene, like a cottage on Christmas Eve, a warm evening by the tree and fireplace, a winter village, or a magical Christmas tree. You can tell some of the images were created with AI, but every scene has its own enchanting details and its own song.

Every scene comes with its own song, and the images are a welcome change from the overly cutesy designs in other countdown apps.

A clear countdown with a calendar on the side

The countdown sits at the bottom of each scene and shows days, hours, minutes, and seconds, which is the only way Daysie measures the wait. A separate calendar view shows every day leading up to Christmas with the big day marked in red, so kids can see the whole stretch at once. If a scene's song starts to wear on you, you can swap it for another carol from the list.

Three free games make the wait go faster

Daysie is the only countdown app I tested with games built into it. You can pick from three, including Santa's Run and a workshop merge game that plays a lot like Tetris. Both are more fun than Candy Crush, and they give kids something to do besides asking how many days are left.

Is Christmas Countdown: Daysie worth downloading?

Daysie is worth downloading if you're on Android and want a countdown that feels like a holiday card instead of a cartoon. iPhone users will need to pick from the two iOS apps in our roundup, because Daysie is only on Google Play.

Read the data consent screen before you tap accept

Daysie asks for data consent the first time you open it. According to the Google Play Store, the app might collect device IDs but doesn't share data with third parties, which is a lighter footprint than many free apps carry.

How I tested Christmas Countdown: Daysie

Opened every holiday scene on my Samsung Galaxy S24 FE and listened to the song paired with each one.
Played the built-in games to see whether they hold attention while you wait for Christmas.
Checked the calendar view, ad placement, and Google Play data details to see how the app handles the countdown and your privacy.
